Paruppu Thogayal is a simple and quick accompaniment that can be prepared n very less time. It can be mixed with rice or had as a side to any spicy South Indian gravy.
Ingredients (Serves 4)

Cooking time – 5 mins
- Channa dal – 1/4 cup
- Toor dal – 1/2 cup
- Red chillies – 5
- Coconut – 2 tbsp
- Pepper – 1/2 tsp
- Hing – a pinch
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Salt – as required
- In a pan, add 1 tsp oil and roast red chillies and pepper. Fry for few secs and den add coconut. Keep them aside.
- In the same pan. Add the channa dal and toot dal, sauté them well until they change colour.
- Cool them well.
- Blend them well with enough water to a paste. Let the consistency be not too hard nor runny.
Paruppu thogayal can be mixed with rice and ghee or had as a side for kuzhambu / sambar / rasam.
We had white rice, milagu kuzhambu and paruppu thogayal, a simple yet yummy combo for lunch !!!
